 Opalites

Opalites are a species that live on a new age earth among humans and are treated as equals. They have the same intelligence as humans and are friendly towards them, but generally Opalites create their own communities/villages where they all work as a team to sustain that group.

Opalite are able to switch genders at any time, many like to side with one gender and express themselves as that, but every Opalite is able to convert or change its gender on command.

Opalite are both a land and aquatic species, but some Opalites bodies are not built for underwater and some struggle with swimming, this only really happens if generations before that chose to be on land, but a rare problematic situation can happen where an aquatic living family hatches a child who is incompatible with underwater living.

Opalite are capable of speaking english, but its quite hard for them to learn if they where brought up in their native tongue, The Opalite language varies greatly depending on where you are, but there are many similarities in the overall language that most opalite understand. 

Their diets are very compatible and carefree, they eat pretty much anything humans do. But some (like humans) are very picky eaters, or choose to be vegetarian/ vegan/ ect. But they do have a very big love for pollens, essences and nectars.

Their wings (if present) generally are not made for long distance flying/high speed, but more low effort flying/ gliding. But there are some who are designed more for speed, or for longer distance traveling. There are also Opalites who’s wings are unable to get them off the ground and are just generally for show.

They lay around 1-3 aquatic eggs that are similar to frogs/fish eggs and glimmer with a slight opalescence. They must always be somewhat moist, preferably being spritzed with water every couple of hours that isn’t too hot or cold, generally around room/body temperature , adjusting to the temperature of the air. The eggs contain very nourishing and hydrating jelly that feeds the larva. Many inventions exist for mothering Opalites such as sashes and packs specially made for egg carrying. These eggs are quite sturdy and tough with the outer casing being able to withstand quite a bit. Children of opalites will generally take the attributes of the same kind of fish species and same group of insect as one of their parents.

No two exact combinations can exist unless they’re twins.

Some underground human gangs or deranged Opalites sell the severed opal horns on the black market for a high price, a small group of people believe that the horns of Opalites cure many illnesses (this is scientifically proven to be incorrect). Opalite can live without their horns, but they are usually killed in the process.
